Neonatal Resuscitation Program for Healthcare Professionals
"The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills."
-American Academy of Pediatrics
Co-created by the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association, this program covers the NRP algorithm, the use of pulse oximetry, and more, and emphasizes a hands-on, interactive simulation-based learning environment. The program is intended for healthcare providers who participate in neonatal resuscitation in the delivery room and newborn nursery.
Prior to attending the classroom skills session, students must go online and take the written exam. Each student must successfully complete the online, didactic portion of the course for all 9 modules, before taking part in the classroom skills session.
The NRP 3 – 4 hour instructor-led classroom skills session covers: The principles of resuscitation; the initial steps of resuscitation; use of resuscitation devices for positive-pressure ventilation; chest compressions; endotracheal intubation and laryngeal mask airway insertion; medications; special considerations; resuscitation of babies born preterm; and ethics and care at the end of life. Upon successful course completion, students receive an NRP Provider certification card valid for two years.
